Vision

Advising is a teaching and learning experience where students are actively engaged in their educational goals and inspired to realize their full potential.

Mission Statement

The Advising Department is committed to empowering each student to make a successful transition to the college and develop an appropriate academic plan in line with their educational, personal and career goals.

Student Learning Outcomes

·        Students will navigate online student services in order to enroll in appropriate classes.
·        Students will identify important deadlines which will impact their enrollment status and timely program completion.
·        Students will locate sources of information regarding academic certificate/degree options at Highline College.
·        Students will create a quarterly class schedule and academic plan in line with their educational goals.
·        Students will describe behaviors and actions which are associated with academic success.
·        Students will articulate their responsibilities regarding their role in the advising process.
·        Students will identify the next steps in the process of preparing to transfer to a baccalaureate granting institution or for admission to one of Highline’s Bachelor of Applied Science programs.
·        Students will articulate the importance of engagement and the options that are available to them in order to maximize their college experience and support their success.
·        Students will identify campus resources relevant to their academic goals.

·        To introduce academic pathway options to new students.
·        To serve as a resource for the best practices, student development theory and scholarship, and professional development for the college community.

·        To incorporate standard practices across the departent that promote student learning and development.
·        To collaborate with institutional stakeholders in the development and delivery of holistic, student-centered programming and services.
